Beat your pistols into fountain pens

Have you ever thought what happens to old Police weapons when they are replaced by newer ones. Are they reworked, even sold to pistol sportsmen or to police forces of other countries? Not anymore! Due to the many problems with weapons being stolen or resold illegally, German police is not selling their retired weapons to anyone. Instead, they are sent back to the maker for recycling.

In 2018, the Police of Lower Saxony in Germany had the idea to show their support for non-proliferation of firearms and a weaponless peaceful society.

They thought, nothing can be better than following the reference of the bible which says: “... they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks....” [Isaiah 2:4]. The idea was born to adjust this quote to modern times, producing a symbolic fountain pen from the metal parts of the retired weapons.

When they contacted the German producer of silver fountain pens, Waldmann Pens in Pforzheim about this idea, they met open ears.

The gun barrels of 1000 retired Heckler & Koch P2000 were molten into the starting material for making a fountain pen. Waldmann choose as basis for this model their flagship "Waldmann Precieux".

And out came a black-chrome coated pen of real gun metal. The new pen "Waldmann P2000" is a limited edition of 1000 pieces. It is a cartridge and converter pen with a Waldmann-branded Bock steel nib, size M (F or B on request).

Technical data:
Weight: 56g
Size: capped 146 mm, diameter 13.8 mm

MRSP: 495 Euro

From the selling price, a large part was donated to the organisation "Weisser Ring" which has projects for "crime victim support", "crime prevention", among others. Just some days ago, the Police administration and the CEO of Waldmann pens presented a cheque of 32000 Euro (>35000 USD) to this organization - just from selling this pen.

If you like this pen, search for Waldmann P2000 in your preferred search engine. There are a few online shops selling this pen. However, hurry up, they are nearly sold out. I will get mine when I am visiting Germany - it is already reserved.

The pen, a booklet and a "limited edition ink" is delivered in a refurbished, original Heckler&Koch box of one of the retired pistols. The number of the pen and the number of one of the retired firearms is engraved on the center band of the cap.
The members of this project are Niedersaechsisches Ministerium fuer Inneres und Sport, Polizei Niedersachsen, Fotoakademie Westfalen and Waldmann Schreibgeraete.

Pen box - Japanese style

My rotation pens rested in several boxes here and there on my book shelves. I always wanted them to be together in one box. So, I bought one at Yahoo Auctions. It is a wooden box lacquered with urushi, unused, stored hidden for many years in some drawers.  Nice, isn't it. It is an old storage box for writing tools and paper. But to use it as a pen box, there is some protection necessary - otherwise the lacquer will soon suffer.  But such an inset is probably not commercially available. So today, I decided to make one by myself - using Japanese paper "Washi". I chose a paper in which gold and silver flakes are mixed into the fibres. It is quite thick and, additionally, the backside is coated with gold. (This gold and silver is certainly made from aluminium.) I folded the paper that the valley is 15mm broad and the crests are 5mm high. The backside then looks like this. Some adhesive into the crests.  A little bit of persuasion with some clip
