Not Expensive Pen 1: Ohto Tasche FF-10T

This pen is called "Ohto Tasche", where "Tasche" is the German word for pocket. Japanese companies like to use foreign words because Japanese think this is so cool.

The product code is FF-10T if you want to search for it. The pen comes in four colors (black, silver, pink and blue) - Link to the Tasche HP.

It is a small, slim and light pen, except when it is posted.

Length 9.8 cm (closed) or 14.6 cm (posted) - 8.5 cm when the cap is removed.
Diameter 9 mm at the silver part and 10 mm at the pink part.

Total weight 13.5 g (without cartridge) - 5.6 g for the cap and 7.9 for the feed assembly.

The nib inscription says "Iridium Point Germany" which indicates that it is certainly made in China (this should not be considered a devaluation).

The pen uses short international cartridges. With Pelikan 4001 Royal-Blue, the nib writes 0.5 mm lines, classifying it as a medium - the maker says it is a fine which is clearly wrong - at least here in Japan.

I use this pen only when necessary, it is a little bit too slim for my taste. Usually, this leads to a not so nice handwriting as you can see on the left. Good enough for a short note.

But the pen has the advantage of always starting to write immediately - even after several weeks of not using it.
Additionally, the nib writes smoothly and flawlessly.

I carry it in my bag without any loss of ink inside the cap. The quality is apparently good. It is so small, I can keep it even in my wallet - see picture on the left side (the silver part on the right side of the picture is a credit card).

Prices: you can find it for 880 Yen (ca. 7.8 USD) in Japan and a little bit more expensive abroad.

Other reviews - FYI

Waldmann Pen's catalogs 2008-2024

The company Waldmann Pens exists since more than 100 years. Due to destruction of the Waldmann factory including the archives during WWII, all information before this event is lost. After the death of the founder in 1964, the owner changed several times until in 2007, the recent owner, Stefan Schnirch, took over. And only since his start, catalogs of the produced models exist. You can see and download the catalogs from 2008 until 2024 from my Goggle Drive. I got permission from Mr. Schnirch to offer them here. GoogleDrive

"Gemini pens"

It's play time. I asked Gemini to create some fountain pens. Unfortunately, Gemini still has some problems in creating a fountain pen. I am still working on how to make reliably such a pen with Gemini. The problem could be with my prompts or it could be on the Gemini side. Nevertheless - enjoy!

Silver pens

Just be cautious to know the difference between the different silver types if you buy a silver pen - I use some lines from Wikipedia - do not claim I could say it better.   Real silver Fine silver  is 99.9% pure silver. Argentium silver  (patented in 1998) is a brand of modern tarnish-resistant silver alloys, containing either 93.5%, 94% or 96% silver. Argentium alloys replace some of the copper in the traditional sterling silver (92.5% silver + 7.5% copper) with the metalloid germanium. Argentium 935, Argentium 940 and Argentium 960 alloys exceed the standard required for hallmarking as sterling silver, and Argentium 960 silver meets the standard for hallmarking as Britannia silver (95.84% silver). Silvadium, Sterlium  is 93% silver, and other metals Sterling silver  is an alloy composed by weight of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. The sterling silver standard has a minimum millesimal fineness of 925.   and then there i...
