Waldmann Pens - Model Precieux

click on the photos to see them larger

The Précieux was presented for the first time in 2016 and is still in production. It came out with two black pens with silver cap having either the fine diamond cut wave pattern or the deep weave pattern as well as the fully silver pen with the deep wide pattern. From these models, only the fine diamond cut wave pattern is on offer for the whole 8 years.

In 2019, the Précieux was offered as a limited edition steel model, the Précieux P2000 in 1000 pieces. The steel used for the production of this model was obtained from barrels of recycled Heckler & Koch police pistols. A large part of the profit was donated to the German organisation Weisser Ring which has projects for "crime victim support", "crime prevention", among others.

At the end of 2020, two models were retired, the black silver model with deep weave cap pattern and the model entirely made from silver with the deep wide lines pattern.

In 2021, three new models were presented, the black silver model with pinstripe pattern and two models with frosted stripes cap pattern in ruthenium and in rose-gold.

At the end of 2022, the models with the frosted stripes cap pattern were also retired and since 2023 only two black silver models with either the fine diamond cut wave pattern or with pinstripe pattern cap are available.

Fountain pen - the basics

The models are made from solid Sterling silver, apart from the black lacquered parts where the lacquer is on brass. Component parts are rhodium-plated.

The models are equipped with either stainless steel nibs or with 18k gold nibs. Until 2019, nibs were made by Bock in F, M, and B. From 2020, the nibs are made by Jowo and are available as EF, F, M, and B. The size seems to be what is often called a Nr.5 nib.

The rose-gold coated pen has also rose-gold plated stainless steel and gold nibs.

The Précieux is a cartridge-converter pen with a screw-on cap. I remember well when I received my first Précieux, the box contained a note reminding the buyer that it is a screw-on cap and not a friction-fit cap. I can imagine some people destroying their pen on the first opening.

The fountain pens have a weight of 58g (the fully silver model 60g), their length is capped 146 mm and uncapped 105 mm, the diameter is 13.5 mm. For the P2000, I have noted 56 g and a diameter of 13.8 mm (not to recheck it).

The size of the Précieux is very similar to the Sailor 1911L.

The pencils, ballpens and rollerballs.

Each of the models is/was also offered as pencil, ball-pen and rollerball.

Pencil with a twist-action mechanism, lead system either for 0.5 or 0.7 mm; length 144 mm, diameter 13.5 mm, weight 49 g (fully silver 52 g).

Ball-pen with a twist-action mechanism, Parker G2 refill;  length 144 mm, diameter 13.5 mm, weight 51 g (fully silver 54 g).

Rollerball with cap (cap seems not be interchangeable with the identical-looking fountain pen cap); rollerball refill 5888 M von Schmidt Technology; length capped 146 mm, uncapped 120 mm, diameter 13.5 mm, weight 61 g (fully silver 64 g).

Customized fountain pens

Waldmann Pens has a customization program where you can either request modifications to existing models or even fully produced models according to your wishes.

I always wanted a set of gold pens. Using solid gold would make such a set extremely expensive, so I chose a Vermeil pen set instead. Vermeil means that you have at least 3 um of 12k gold or better on silver. In my case, I chose the fully silver model with deep wide lines pattern and requested a 5 um gold coating in 24k gold, in yellow-gold and in rose-gold. The rose-gold model also sports a rose-gold plated 18k gold nib. You can see the customized models in the first picture.

To complete the set, I obtained yellow-gold Vermeil pens of the pencil, the ball-pen and the rollerball too.

Now that the base model is not in production anymore, they have become unique pens. Nobody else ordered such a modification.

Waldmann Pen's catalogs 2008-2025

The company Waldmann Pens exists since more than 100 years. Due to destruction of the Waldmann factory including the archives during WWII, all information before this event is lost. After the death of the founder in 1964, the owner changed several times until in 2007, the recent owner, Stefan Schnirch, took over. And only since his start, catalogs of the produced models exist. You can see and download the catalogs from 2008 until 2025 from my Goggle Drive. I got permission from Mr. Schnirch to offer them here. GoogleDrive

Silver pens

Just be cautious to know the difference between the different silver types if you buy a silver pen - I use some lines from Wikipedia - do not claim I could say it better.   Real silver Fine silver  is 99.9% pure silver. Argentium silver  (patented in 1998) is a brand of modern tarnish-resistant silver alloys, containing either 93.5%, 94% or 96% silver. Argentium alloys replace some of the copper in the traditional sterling silver (92.5% silver + 7.5% copper) with the metalloid germanium. Argentium 935, Argentium 940 and Argentium 960 alloys exceed the standard required for hallmarking as sterling silver, and Argentium 960 silver meets the standard for hallmarking as Britannia silver (95.84% silver). Silvadium, Sterlium  is 93% silver, and other metals Sterling silver  is an alloy composed by weight of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. The sterling silver standard has a minimum millesimal fineness of 925.   and then there i...

"Gemini pens"

It's play time. I asked Gemini to create some fountain pens. Unfortunately, Gemini still has some problems in creating a fountain pen. I am still working on how to make reliably such a pen with Gemini. The problem could be with my prompts or it could be on the Gemini side. Nevertheless - enjoy!
